Denver Pain Care offers two main types of massage:  Neuromuscular Massage Therapy and Manual Lymph Drainage.

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy is specific soft tissue treatment that thoroughly releases the entire muscle from end to end.  Tender points and trigger points are treated, and postural and muscular imbalances are assessed and addressed.  Other modalities that may be incorporated into a session include Myofascial Release to warm and soften connective tissue and Muscle Energy Techniques to stretch shortened muscle fibers.  Tight musculature is a contributing factor to spinal and pelvic misalignment leading to disk and nerve compression.  By lengthening contracted paraspinal muscle fibers, Neuromuscular Massage Therapy alleviates intervertebral pressure, facilitating and maintaining chiropractic adjustments.  Dr. Testa will recommend whether receiving massage before or after your adjustment would be more beneficial.

Inflammation is contraindicated for deeper work, so in cases of swelling or sensitivity, Manual Lymph Drainage is recommended.  By moving stagnant fluid, this technique speeds healing for sprains and strains, assists post-surgical recovery, and is highly beneficial in cases of chronic inflammation.  Manual Lymph Drainage is rhythmic, light and soothing, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to calm the stress response.
